Adhesive / Vinyl Press On D.O.T. Placards are 10 3/4" x 10 3/4" and meet new HM-181 regulations.
The Department of Transportation expanded the number of explosive placards from 3 to 35 (the number of classification codes possible). The classification code for an explosive consists of the Division Number followed by the Compatibility group Letter. These letters are used to specify controls for the transportation and storage of explosives and to prevent an increase in hazards that might result if certain types of explosives were stored or transported together. Our explosive placards display both the Division Number and Compatibility Group Letter. Explosive A, B, C and Blasting Agents are being replaced with Explosive 1.1, 1.2, 1.3. 1.4, 1.5, and 1.6 conforming to the UN System. The placards, which comply with 49 CFR are available in tagboard or removable vinyl. All are 273mm x 273mm. Please see below material classification.
Hazard Classification Code
The UN hazard classification system for classifying explosive materials and explosive components is recognized internationally and is used universally by the Department of Defense (DoD), other Department of Energy (DOE) contractors, and the Department of Transportation (DOT). The UN system consists of nine classes of dangerous materials, with explosives designated as Class 1. The explosives hazard class is further subdivided into six divisions, which are used for segregating ammunition and explosives on the basis of similarity of characteristics, properties, and accident effects potential.
